Battleship captains plot their strategies, send out torpedoes, and as the last ship (often the smallest, two-peg patrol boat) hides in an unsuspected corner, anticipation mounts. Like many classic games, Battleship walks a fine line between strategy and luck. The goal is to conceal the location of your ships while finding and destroying your enemies’ fighters. The playing arena is a notebook-size plastic board updated for ’90s sensibilities: the “floor” of the board is printed with waves and the exterior vaguely resembles a laptop. The design mimics the view a submarine captain would have, complete with a glimmer of radar waves. The game is perfect entertainment to share: simple enough for children, yet gratifying enough for adults to enjoy. One design decision keeps this edition from being truly stellar: the playing boards don’t lock securely, allowing the small pegs to fall out and spill from the sides if jostled.

I searched and searched to find the perfect Battleship game to play with my 8-year old daughter. This version is not the cheapest, but it’s far from the most expensive. It is the perfect version! Each player has their own board that they can hold in their lap. The boards are not connected like other versions. This is a great set to play for many years.

My friends, who live a few cities away, play battleship with each other over our ps3′s using the video function. We have adapted it to more suit out needs. Great game.
Unlike the new and “improved” version of the game, this version actually has fitting pieces that stay where you put them. The separate boards let players sit comfortably across the room unlike the new one-board version that forces players to huddle over a bizarre octagonal single board with pieces that fall out constantly.

This puzzle was an absolute delight for the little seven year old tyke who put it together. Each piece was of interest whether flowers, faces, or trains. She was most excited to see it glow, and waited all day for night to come and for the puzzle to reveal itself in the dark. A truly fun experience in every way. Both of my kids (2 & 5) love this puzzle. The 2-year-old (nearly 3) needs help finding pieces, but if I find her all of the pieces for a given engine she’ll put them together. There is enough going on in it of different colors that it’s an easy puzzle to put together in parts. It’s a great toy to bring out when we need the energy level to go down for a little bit. I bought this for my 4 year old, after realizing the 35 pc Thomas the Engine puzzle I bought him was too easy. You won’t be disappointed by the quality of the puzzle, it is pretty sturdy compared to the cheaper puzzles out there. The picture is coordinated such that my son works on different parts and can later put the whole puzzle together by himself. In fact, the picture is so well put together, that he can put the puzzle together in less than 30 minutes. I am afraid he will outgrow this puzzle soon, however, I think I will have it framed and hang it on his bedroom wall so he can enjoy at bedtime. He loves the glow in the dark feature. Puzzles are a great head-fake, he’s “playing” but learning great logic and analytical skills at the same time. I am overall satisfied with the product.

My daughter (8) played chess in school, it was a short class so this helps keep her practicing. It does not really teach strategic planning (check/mate moves) but gives the overall instructions and even if you never played, it teaches basic moves. I would recommend this game and I have to others. Great way to get started with the game of chess. I would get a beginner book to go along with it for more instruction.
I gave my 7 year old son this game for Christmas and we played it for hours. It is an excellent way to learn how to play chess without the stress . I also liked that they gave 3 different ways you could play. That made it even more interesting. Also, the other ways give children the opportunity to win, as my child did several times against me. If we played regular chess he would not have had a chance LOL! I would definitely recommend this game.

Santa got these for my 14 month old twin daughters, along with the wagon and once they discovered these they did not pay attention to any of their other gifts. We actually had to distract them & then hide these in order for them to get the rest of their gifts.
I don’t know what they find so entertaining about these but since they’ve gotten these they are normally the 1st thing they go for. I’m not sure if they just like taking them out of the wagon or what. They either play with them together or by themselves.
These are great fun for my husband and I to play with as well. We normally compete to see who can build the most creative thing and of course once my daughters see that we have built anything over 5 blocks high, they love to come and smack it down, then crack up about it.
These are safe, I don’t think any of the pieces are small enough for them to choke on but they are always supervised. These are also good for teaching them colors. I have been trying to teach them to stack the blocks but they still havn’t gotten that concept yet.
My mom, an elementary school teacher, brought home a set of these blocks for our daughter to play with at her house. We didn’t guess she would enjoy them as early or as much as she does. She started playing with them at seven months, and truly enjoying them. She even received her own set from grandma for Christmas. She can’t quite put them together yet, to build things, but she loves the shapes and colors. The are so durable and easy to clean. And I love that there’s no structure to them, it really helps develop imagination. Every child should have a set of blocks!
Our 17 month old loves these and I have fun with them, too, when we build things together. The 80 piece set gives you enough to build all kinds of Art Deco skyscrapers, or whatever you can imagine.

As a side benefit, it is great for fine motor dvlpmt and use with special needs.
I got the toy for my 3 and a half year old son for xmas. i saw a similar toy in a catalog for twice as much money and this one just won my heart over, not only because of its price but because my son is a huge animal fan. when he plays with the maze he is learning how to hold his pencil correctly and he is practicing his tracing skills without even noticing it. the magnetic “pencil” is short enough to hold it different ways so when his little hand gets tired holding it correctly he can still grab it as he would a crayon. the magnetic tip is positioned the way the he learns how to manipulate the “pencil” either way he holds it. the maze has a durable clear shield over it, great fun for car-rides. it is very colorful, pretty and well made like all Melissa and Doug toys. i would highly recommend it.
