We bought this for my son for Christmas. It was a huge hit. The laser can be seen for over 1/4 mile. The Holographic Projector cap is fantastic. The ability to display limitless patterns is amazing. The laser is quite bright. I would not recommend it for small children. We have had hours of fun with this Laser Pointer.
The product arrived on time and undamaged. The laser is 30mW which is strong enough to hurt someones eyes so don’t try it. Overall very fun device to play with, and point far distances.

I bought this kit for my rock crazy wife, and she’s having a blast making crystals! She’s 64 years old. The crystals she’s grown so far are nice sized. The instructions are crystal clear and simple. Measure the chemicals, measure the boiling water, and pour it in a plastic cup is more or less the difficulty of the experiments, and then wait a few days. The longer your willing to be patient, the bigger the crystals. I got her a bunch of little plastic jars to keep them in. She is really happy with this Christmas gift, and I’m having fun looking at them to! Think I’ll buy another one.
I actually purchased 2 of these kits. I bought one for a gift for Christmas for one of my sons and one for myself and my youngest son to see what it would be like. IT WAS AND IS A BLAST. It grows really beautiful crystals. To get really good ones you need to wait longer than it says in the instructions but its worth the wait. You can watch them grow and change and its really educational and fun. I am definitely going to buy more when this kit is gone as its lots of fun. The only downside is that you can not purchase the different packs of crystal growing stuff separately if there is a crystal that you enjoy growing more.

This was for my fourth grader’s science fair project. The kit came as described. And the directions were easy to follow. We poured distilled water on the sterile swabs immediately before use. My fourth grader had gross bacteria in less than one week!

**It took approx 30 minutes to melt the agar on stovetop. Don’t make the mistake of shaking the bottle too hard or you will end up with lots of bubbles. **
My 11-year old son needed this equipment for a science project. I encountered issues with some other vendors who wouldn’t sell to an individual (terrorism concerns?). Anyway, this kit was just what he needed to get a good grade and it was ordered an delivered w/o any hassles.
I was pleasantly surprised when my Petri Dishes with Agar and Swabs-Science Fair Project Kit arrived 5 business days after ordering it. It had shipped immediately via UPS and arrived carefully packaged in packing peanuts.

The kit included:
-20 plastic Petri dishes
-20 sterile swabs
-2 (200 ml) bottles of nutrient agar
-Complete instructions on how to do a Science Fair project, how to get the agar prepared and into the plates and a handout on Science Fair display design. VERY complete, very good information.

This is easily the least expensive, most complete set for microbiology experiments I’ve seen. Just get yourself some distilled water (needed for capturing cultures of bacteria on the swabs) and a microscope if you like, and you’ll be ‘growing germs’ as outlined in the handouts in no time!

NOTE: Do be careful when heating up the agar in the microwave. If you heat it too quickly you will end up with chunky (non melting) agar. Melt it at the lowest setting on the microwave in 30 second increments, swishing it around each time. Be sure to open the cap slightly before heating.

I tried both the hot water bath method of heating (takes forever) and the microwave. I was saddened to make this mistake with the first bottle of agar, but the second batch came out perfect. Take it slow, and all will be well.

From a parent’s perspective, wow, what a bad deal. Someone is making a killing here charging 19.99 for a bit of sugar, some gelatin, a balloon and 4 cotton swabs, etc. The “science” experiments were underwhelming from the adults’ point of view. Also, not really gross or disgusting. There is also a bit of prep time involved for the experiments involving gelatin. But from a kid’s perspective? My 5-year-old daughter thinks it’s awesome. She really enjoyed coming up with ideas for germy things to put in the petri dishes. And making the bloody scab. So far that’s all we’ve done, but she’s psyched for more. So, while I think the price point is out of line for what’s offered, I will probably buy another kit at some point (but on sale) because my daughter likes it so much. She is very proud of her experiments and she gave the kit a five out of five for fun.
We swiped some toes (after running around sockless in rubber boots), toilet water, teeth, the kitchen sink, and left one open to the air for 1/2 an hour. The winner was the toes! Truly gross. It takes about 10 days to get some good cultures going, but we kept a chart and it was VERY educational. The other ‘experiments’ were just play, but the swabs and cultures in the petri dishes were really worth the money. And there was anough gelatin left to do more experments so we passed the kit on to friends.
