My daughter (8) played chess in school, it was a short class so this helps keep her practicing. It does not really teach strategic planning (check/mate moves) but gives the overall instructions and even if you never played, it teaches basic moves. I would recommend this game and I have to others. Great way to get started with the game of chess. I would get a beginner book to go along with it for more instruction.
I gave my 7 year old son this game for Christmas and we played it for hours. It is an excellent way to learn how to play chess without the stress . I also liked that they gave 3 different ways you could play. That made it even more interesting. Also, the other ways give children the opportunity to win, as my child did several times against me. If we played regular chess he would not have had a chance LOL! I would definitely recommend this game.
This was the perfect solution! My 7 year old daughter has desparately wanted to play chess with her dad and brother. Her brother learned chess in spite of his dad’s teaching. (My husband just does NOT have the patience to teach!) But, at 13 he does not have the patience, yet, to even play a stressful game like chess with her.
